Just a Word
‘Terrorist’ is just a word, one I wish I’d never heard
When it’s used to vilify, without the need to question why
Only fools would swift condemn, that which has not befallen them
Until you know what lies behind, the actions of a tortured mind
Thank your God for sparing you, the suffering others have lived through
Where are the cries of just demand, for Arabs driven from their land?
Blame the victim, turn the cheek, praise the bully, kick the weak!
Mock the man who truth does speak
Tinker, tailor, soldier, spy, greed, corruption, torture, lies!
Blair invasion, sly persuasion, annihilation, massacred nation
Keep on running, karma’s coming!
Money talks, truth walks, oil spills, greed kills
Tide is turning, London’s burning!
Bombs will fall and blood will flow, as sure as my own name I know
Until corrupt dictators go, brutal, rotten, to the core
Their day has come, they rule no more
Show me the man who will not fight, to save his child, his home, his right!
You can call him what you like, you’re not in his sorry plight
Cowards stay and Martyrs go, I know not where, but this I know
Speak your truth and stand your ground, fight your corner
When all around, point the finger, purse the lips, pin the label, ‘Terrorist’!
Just a word, but one that sticks, even when the cap don’t fit
But for the grace of God go I, remember that, before you cry
False accusation, names of shame, at those who may not be to blame,
Their crime, refused to play the game, of meek acceptance, dumbing down,
Your life, your choice; Warrior / Clown
the “war on drugs” got us more drugs
the “war on poverty” brings us more poverty
the “war on terror” brought us more terror
maybe we should have a “war on peace” !

If you don’t already know, there is a controversial bill President Obama signed into law on New Year’s Eve. Provisions within the NDAA allow for the indefinite detention of American citizens on US soil, without access to a trial or attorney. It’s a disgrace to the founding fathers, to our nation’s rule of law, and to every soldier who has given his or her life to protect our way of life. Many, even liberal Democrats, are now calling for Obama’s impeachment, and the recall of Congressional leaders who crammed this bill through.

The United States has reportedly initiated a targeted killing program under which the CIA and the military have the authority to hunt and kill individuals, including U.S. citizens, far away from the battlefields in Iraq, Afghanistan and even the Pakistani border regions, and potentially anywhere in the world. The program operates without any checks and balances; all of the essential details about the program remain secret. We do not know what criteria are used to put people on the “kill lists” maintained by the CIA and military, how much evidence is required to add a person to the lists, or whether there are any geographical limits on where individuals can be targeted. The President has, in effect, claimed the unchecked authority to put the names of citizens and others on “kill lists” on the basis of a secret determination, based on secret evidence, that a person meets a secret definition of the enemy.
We are all familiar with how the death penalty works. A crime (usually murder) is committed. It’s investigated by law enforcement. A suspect is arrested, charged with the crime, and goes to trial. The government shows the judge or jury the evidence against the accused. The accused can defend against the accusations. The jury delivers a verdict. If it’s a guilty verdict, the defendant might be sentenced to death.
The process, from arrest to sentencing, is the Fifth Amendment in action, the part that states: “no personâ¦shall be deprived of life, liberty or property without due process of law.”
The Constitution protects all Americans’ right to life, whether they’re living at home or abroad. If the government thinks you should be dead, it should at least tell you why. The fact that the standard that puts Americans on the “kill list” is a secret is itself unconstitutional. As our complaint states, “U.S. citizens have a right to know what conduct may subject them to execution at the hands of their own government. Due process requires, at a minimum, that citizens be put on notice of what may cause them to be put to death by the state.”
