Church of the SubGenius

J. R. “Bob” Dobbs is the figurehead of the Church of the SubGenius. His image is derived from a piece of 1950s clip art. According to SubGenius dogma, “Bob” was a drilling equipment salesman who, in 1953, saw a vision of God (JHVH-1 according to Church scriptures) on a television set he had built himself. The vision inspired him to write the “PreScriptures” (as described in the Book of the SubGenius) and found the Church. The theology holds that “Bob” is the greatest salesman who ever lived, and has cheated death a number of times. He is also revered for his great follies and believed to be a savior of “slack”. He was assassinated in San Francisco in 1984, though the Church states that he has come back from the dead several times since then.

The quotation marks in “Bob’s” name are always included when spelling his name, according to the Church. According to Revelation X; The “Bob” Apocryphon, “Bob” was born in Dallas, Texas, to Xinucha-Chi-Xan M. Dobbs (a pharmacist) and Jane McBride Dobbs. At an early age he possessed a talent for making large amounts of money by playing the stock market over the telephone. He married his wife Connie in Las Vegas in 1955 and worked as a photographer’s model while inventing and patenting novelty gag items. In 1957 he worked weekends doing Evangelical Christian preaching “strictly for the money”. (read more)

Hunter S. – Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride

Young people of America, awake from your slumber of indolence and hark-en the call of the future! Do you realize you are rapidly becoming a doomed generation? Do you realize that the fate of the world and of generations to come rests on your shoulders?  Do you realize that at any time you may be called on to protect your country and the freedom of the world from the creeping scourge of communism? How can you possibly laugh in the face of the disasters which face us all from all sides? Oh ignorant youth, the world is not a joyous place. The time has come for you to dispense with the frivolous pleasures of childhood and get down to honest toil until you are sixty-five. Then and only then can you relax and collect your social security and live happily until the time of your death. Also your insolent attitude disturbs me greatly. You have the nerve to say that you have never known what it is like to live in a secure and peaceful world; you say that the present generation has balled things up to the extent that we now face a war so terrible that the very thought of it makes hardened veterans shudder; you say it is our fault that World War ll  was fought in vein; you say that it is impossible to lay plans for the future until you are sure you have a future. I say Nonsense! None of these things matter. If you expect a future you must carve it out in the face of these things. You also say that you must wait until after you have served your time with the service to settle down. Ridiculous! It is a man’s duty to pull up stakes and serve his country at any time, then settle down again.

I say there is no excuse for a feeling of insecurity on your part; there is no excuse for juvenile delinquency; there is no excuse for your attitude except that you are rotten and lazy! I was never like that! I worked hard; I saved; I didn’t run around and stay out late at night; I carved out my own future through hard work and virtuous living, and look at me now: a respectful and successful man.

I warn you, if you don’t start now it will be too late, and the blame for the end of the world will be laid at your feet. Heed my warning, oh depraved and profligate youth; I say awake, awake, awake!

Fearfully and disgustedly yours,       John J. Righteous-Hypocrite.

Savannah ..! Finn ..! look.
It’s him. I finded him ..It’s Captain Walker.

-What’s his talk?
-He ain’t made any wordstuff.
-It’s a long track. Maybe he’s burned out.
-Maybe.
-Maybe he’s just listening.
Walker? Hello?
Maybe he’s talking, but we ain’t hearing.
You see ..his lips ain’t moving.
Not with wordstuff, but maybe with sonic.
This is Delta-Fox-X-Ray. Can you hear me? Delta-Fox-X-Ray. Come in. Is anybody out there? Can you read me, Walker? What’s up, Doc? Can you hear me,

Yeah, I can hear your ..who are you

-Quiet!
-Shut up!
-Enough!

Who are you?

We are the waiting ones.

Waiting for what?

Waiting for you.

And who am I?

I think he be testing us .. this a testing, Walker? …you reckon we been slack?

I don’t know ..maybe you’ve been slack.

We ain’t ..we kept it straight. It’s all there. Everything marked ..everything ‘membered. You wait, you’ll see. This you knows. I be First Tracker. Times past count I done the Tell. But it weren’t me that tumbled Walker. It was Savannah. So it’s only right that she tell the Tell.

This ain’t one body’s story. It’s the story of us all. We got it mouth-to-mouth. You got to listen it and ‘member. ‘Cause what you hears today ..you got to tell the birthed tomorrow.

I’m looking behind us now. ..across the count of time . .down the long haul, into history back. In the end what were the start. It’s Pox-Eclipse, full of pain! And out of it we were birthed ..from crackling dust and fearsome time. It were full-on winter ..and Mr. Dead chasing them all. But one he couldn’t catch. That were Captain Walker.

He gathers up a gang, takes to the air and flies to the sky! So they left their homes, said bidey-bye to the high-scrapers . .and what were left of the knowing, they left behind. Some say the wind just stoppered. Others reckon it were a gang called Turbulence. And after the wreck, some had been jumped by Mr. Dead . .but some had got the luck, and it leads them here.

One look and they’s got the hots for it. They word it “Planet Earth. ” “We don’t need the knowing. We can live here. “

Time counts and keeps counting. They gets missing what they had. They get so lonely for the high-scrapers and the video. And they does the pictures so they’d ‘member all the knowing that they lost.

‘Member this?
-Tomorrow-morrow Land!
‘Member this?
-The River of Light!
‘Member this?
-Skyraft!
‘Member this?
-Captain Walker!
‘Member this?
-Mrs. Walker!

Then Captain Walker picked them of an age and good for a long haul. They counted twenty, and that were them. The great leaving. The rescue party departed at first light ..led by Flight Captain. Walker. “May God have mercy on our souls. ” They said bidey-bye to them what they’d birthed. And from the nothing ..they looked back ..and Captain Walker hollered:

“Wait, one of us will come.”
“Wait, one of us will come.”

And somebody did come. .Walker! We’s heartful to you, Captain Walker. We’s ready now. Take us home. We kept it straight! Everything marked, everything ‘membered!

You kept it real good. You ain’t been slack.

Why are we waiting?

That ain’t me ..you got the wrong guy.

-Quit joshing!
-Catch the wind.
-We got to see Tomorrow-morrow Land!
-Home! Tomorrow-morrow Land!

There were places like these.Cities. They were called cities. They had lots of knowing. They had skyscrapers ..videos and they had the sonic. Then this happened. This Pox-Eclipse happened, and it’s finished. It isn’t there anymore. You got to understand that this is home. And there ain’t no tomorrow Land ..and I ain’t Captain Walker.

This is it!We’s loaded and waiting, Captain. We got the wind up our arse, Captain. Let’s go!Who’s coming? We’s pulling a leaving.

There ain’t gonna be no leavings. All that’s just jerking time. We’s working it different. Ain’t you seen nothing? He couldn’t catch the wind. There weren’t no skyrafting. There won’t be no salvage-shun. This is our Tomorrow-morrow Land. He’s proof of that.

Programmed! All of you programmed. If he ain’t Captain Walker, who is he? He ain’t no different to us. He slogged it on foot. If he can get here, we can get back.He ain’t much bigger than us. Copilot did it. So why can’t we? That’s the trick of it. Who’s coming? Across the nothing? Don’t you ‘member? When you finded him, he were half jumped by Mr. Dead. Nobody’s saying it ain’t a hard slog. If we wants the knowing, it ain’t an easy ride.

Look ..! There ain’t no knowing! There ain’t no skyraft and no sonic. You slog out there to nothing! Worse than nothing. The first place you’ll find is a sleaze pit called Bartertown. If the earth doesn’t swallow you up,that place will.

Don’t listen to im ..! He’s got wordstuff out his ass! Whoever’s got the juice, track with us.

Now listen good! I’m not Captain Walker. I’m the guy who keeps Mr. Dead in his pocket. I say we’re gonna stay here. And we’ll live a long time and we’ll be thankful. Right?

Yeah right .. whoever’s got the juice, track with us.

We were all thinking it

September 15, 2009 — BBC — The Iraqi man who threw his shoes at former U.S. President George W. Bush, has been released from jail in Baghdad, his brother has told the BBC.

Journalist Muntadar al-Zaidi’s act of protest made him a hero in large parts of the Arab world and beyond.

Zaidi was convicted of assaulting a foreign leader.

The TV reporter’s three-year prison sentence was reduced to one because he had a clean record. He was released three months early for good behaviour.

Zaidi’s family has been preparing to hold a party for him and he has received offers of money, jobs and even marriages from sympathisers across the Arab world.

His brother, Dargham al-Zaidi, says the journalist was beaten while in prison, suffering a broken arm, broken ribs and internal bleeding. Those allegations have been rejected by the Iraqi military.

The previously little-known journalist worked for the private Cairo-based al-Baghdadia TV.

As he flung the shoes, Zaidi shouted: “This is a goodbye kiss from the Iraqi people, dog. This is from the widows, the orphans and those who were killed in Iraq.”

His action was celebrated in internet games and on T-shirts and some people have offered him their daughters in marriage.

We were all thinking it, now here’s your chance.

Smells like teen spirit

“High school is closer to the core of the American experience than anything else I can think of.” – Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

When I hear someone in position of authority say “I’m going to rigorously enforce [this particular law] because, without laws ..we’d be a country of anarchy” – then I watch them go out and prosecute offenders in a manner that’s way out-of-proportion to the offense – I don’t believe they’re really acting out of fondness for the law. They’re acting out of aggression that is typical of teenagers climbing the social network in high school or adults climbing the hierarchy of power in politics.

Last year, LA Dist Atty Steve Cooley waged sudden war on marijuana dispensaries because they were accepting cash instead of trading in goods and services. Apparently the law didn’t spell out an exact currency and the term ‘co-op’ could be interpreted to mean a system of barter. Turns out he was planning to run for Attorney General of California.

Arizona Sen Russell Pearce and Kris Kobach co-sponsored Arizona SB 1070 giving police the authority of INS agents to detain Hispanics where the sole probable cause is “..looking illegal.” This certainly is a subjective cause, prone to the bias of a police officer with no training as a federal immigration officer. To me, it’s the same as detaining someone on suspicion of dealing drugs because their hair’s too long. Turns out both sponsors have political ambitions. Kris Kobach is running for Secretary of State in Kansas and Pearce plans to run for president of the Senate and someday hopes to get elected Sheriff of Maricopa County.

Last week Orange County Dist Atty Tony Rackauckas decided to file criminal conspiracy charges against a group of UCI students who protested a speech on campus last year. They face both six months in jail and, as felons, diminished prospects for the future over a nonviolent protest, which may have been rude, but certainly not criminal. I suspect that Rackauckas is also seeking higher office.

anarchy dot com

The Internet is like an anarchist state. No one is in charge and everyone can contribute. That’s how it should be. It puts everyone in charge of what comes and goes by a democratic process of selection. What is of interest to the most rises in visibility and what is of interest to the fewest decreases in visibility. It’s still available but mostly to the interested ‘niche’. What has no niche, or is offensive, fades into obscurity and may vanish altogether. That’s how it should be. Since there’s an open-door policy for entry, the ‘gateway’ needs to reside at the point-of-retrieval. This has been the protocol for nearly every database system I’ve installed ..the successful ones anyway. The gatekeeper to the Internet has been the role of portals such as AOL and Yahoo, or search-engines like Google. The most successful being the one that allows the most clear and manageable handle on chaos. That would be Google I believe. They have an equitable and consistent method for delivering Internet content. They call it ‘PageRank’ and it allows viewers to determine what comes to the foreground and what recedes to the background of our collective Internet experience. Rankings are based on factors such as the amount of attention a site receives or the aggregate number of links or ‘signposts’ directing traffic there. It is a most democratic point-of-retrieval system, provided they stay away from paid-ranking practices. Now they’re turning their attention to making Internet services available over the greatest number of devices and locations with their Android operating system. This has made the selection process even more democratic. In addition, it has put the Internet in our back pocket. Browser-based touch-screen phones have created a virtual ‘wallet’ ..containing a marketplace with virtual ‘catalogs’, ‘order-takers’, ‘currency’, ‘transaction-handlers’ and ‘record-keepers’. The number of services they can deliver to the palm of your hand is virtually endless. I don’t see the role of Google diminishing anytime soon.

Wild Wild Angels

Don’t talk to me of shattered dreams,
Of course you don’t know what it means,
To live for someone else, you can’t just take,
And when you’re bitten by the truth,
You blame it on your mis-spent youth,
You never seem to learn by your mistakes.

So don’t talk to me of wild wild angels,
Wild wild angels on the skyways,
Those wild wild angels on the highways of your life,
‘Cos it’s people like you who never knew,
What wild wild angels have to face.

And I ain’t hangin’ round to see,
You turn on someone else like me,
I’m still alive and you know the way I live,
But baby that’s one way you’ll never be,
Such simple things you fail to see,
You take back everything you ever give.

So don’t talk to me of wild wild angels,
Wild wild angels on the skyways,
Those wild wild angels on the highways of your life,
‘Cos it’s people like you who never knew,
What wild wild angels have to face.

So don’t talk to me of wild wild angels,
Wild wild angels on the skyways,
Those wild wild angels on the highways of your life,
‘Cos it’s people like you who never knew,
What wild wild angels have to face.

So don’t talk to me of wild wild angels,
Wild wild angels on the skyways,
Those wild wild angels on the highways of your life,
‘Cos it’s people like you who never knew,
What wild wild angels have to face.

The Red Pill

I can see it in your eyes.

You have the look of a man who accepts
what he sees because he’s expecting to
wake up. Ironically, this is not far from
the truth. Do you believe in fate, Neo?

Neo: No.

Morpheus: Why not?

Neo: ‘Cause I don’t like the idea that
I’m not in control of my life.

Morpheus: I know exactly what you mean.

Let me tell you why you’re here.
You’re here because you know something.
What you know, you can’t explain.
But you feel it. You felt it your entire
life. That there’s something wrong
with the world. You don’t know what
it is, but it’s there. Like a splinter
in your mind — driving you mad.
It is this feeling that has brought you
to me. Do you know what I’m talking about?

Neo: The Matrix?

Morpheus: Do you want to know what it is?

(Neo nods his head.)

Morpheus: The Matrix is everywhere,
it is all around us. Even now,
in this very room. You can see it when
you look out your window, or when
you turn on your television. You can
feel it when you go to work, or when
go to church or when you pay your taxes.
It is the world that has been pulled
over your eyes to blind you from the truth.

Neo: What truth?

Morpheus: That you are a slave, Neo.
Like everyone else, you were born into
bondage, born inside a prison that
you cannot smell, taste, or touch.
A prison for your mind. (long pause, sighs)
Unfortunately, no one can be told what the
Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself.
This is your last chance. After this,
there is no turning back.

(In his left hand, Morpheus shows a blue pill.)

Morpheus: You take the blue pill and
the story ends. You wake in your bed
and believe whatever you want to believe.

(a red pill is shown in his other hand)

You take the red pill and you stay in
Wonderland and I show you how deep the
rabbit-hole goes. (Long pause;
Neo begins to reach for the red pill)
Remember — all I am offering is the
truth, nothing more.

(Neo takes the red pill and
swallows it with a glass of water)

It’s A Bizarro World

Bizarro is a fictional character that appears in publications published by DC Comics. The character first appeared in Superboy #68 (1958), and was created by writer Otto Binder and artist George Papp.

Debuting in the Silver Age of Comic Books, the character has appeared in both comic books and graphic novels; and other DC Comics-related products such as animated and live-action television series; trading cards; toys and video games.

Bizarro debuted in Superboy #68 (Oct. 1958), writer Otto Binder casting the character as a Frankenstein’s monster pastiche that possessed all the powers of Superboy. Shunned for his grotesque appearance, the teen version of Bizarro only appeared in a single comic book story. An adult version, however, followed soon after: debuting in the Superman daily newspaper comic strip, featuring in Episode 105: “The Battle With Bizarro” (Strips 6147-6242 :Aug. 25, 1958 to Dec. 13, 1958). This storyline also introduced the strange speech patterns that became synonymous with the character, with all of Bizarro’s comments meaning the opposite – eg. “bad” means “good”. The newspaper version also wore a “B” on his chest, as opposed to the distinctive “S”.

Writer of the strip Alvin Schwartz stated:
“I was striving, you might say, for that mirror-image, that opposite. And out of a machine which would reveal the negative Superman, came the mirror image, – always remembering that in a mirror everything is reversed…The times were such that one-dimensional characters, your standard superheroes, even in comics, seemed rather simplistic, like paper cut-outs. What was demanded was the full dimensional personality – a figure that carried a shadow, if you like. I was certainly inspired to some degree also by C.G. Jung’s archetype of “the shadow” – and Bizarro certainly reflected that, as well.” (read more) (click title)

A Clockwork Orange

“We are all going to die,

its only a matter of time.

Welcome To The Real World

The Matrix has you…

Peter Kropotkin

“The chasm between the modern millionaire who squanders the produce of human labor in a gorgeous and vain luxury, and the pauper reduced to a miserable and insecure existence, is thus growing wider and wider, so as to break the very unity of society-the harmony of its life-and to endanger the progress of its further development.”

Peter Kropotkin, born to Russian royalty, is arguably one of the most notable Russian anarchists (Contending with Emma Goldman) ever to come out of the Motherland. Born to Prince Alexei Petrovich Kropotkin, who owned huge tracts of land and 1200 serfs, Peter was rarely allowed any interaction with his father and thus he was educated and raised by the nurses and servants. It was this, along with his dwelling in Moscow, that has sparked an interest in the peasantry which, as some may know, has formed the foundation of nearly every revoltution.

Kropotkin read simply on his own accord. He especially possessed a particular interest in French history and gave much attention to French encyclopaedists. It was probably his interest in French history that also contributed to his interest in Anarchism (keeping in mind the French Revolution and the Paris Commune). The years 1857-1861 beheld an affluent growth in the intellectual contingent during which Liberal-revolutionary literature had been purchased in Kropotkin’s interest, which he felt sufficiently expressed his aspirations.

His views on Anarchism differ from some of his contemporaries (Then again, Anarchism is an elusive praxis; it’s definition being subjective to the views of the subscriber). Whereas most Anarchists and even Anarcho-Syndicalists are opposed to Communist ideologies (That is, the authority that Communism instills, the consistent statism that Anarchists seeks to abolish and the ignorance and dismissal of the peasants and poor), Kropotkin embraced the more Socialistic apects: decentralization of workers, worker organization in the workplace, distribution of wealth, the abolition of the state, society owning means of production and so on.

Kropotkin was also the first to scientifically analyze Anarchism, which he did in his book, Mutual Aid. Kropotkin, also a geographer, was the first to find that mountains grow in the direction opposite of that which all previous scientists have noted. Kropotkin was highly intellectual and was a very notable scientist and political theorist, although that word possibly contradicts his belief concerning theory and action. He believes that, in moments of revolt, people who have not yet fully embraced the revolution are much more willing to follow someone who they have seen act than follow someone who quibbles and theorizes.
